CIRES/NSIDC Professional Research Assistant

Here is your chance to make a difference in the world of climate change. The National Snow and Ice Data Center is looking for a Systems Administrator. NSIDC is a University of Colorado center and a component of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES). NSIDC manages and distributes scientific data, creates tools for data access, supports data users, performs scientific research, and educates the public about the cryosphere. You will be involved with the delivery and distribution of satellite-derived data for the scientific study of the polar regions.

Overview

The Systems Administrator is one of a group of administrators at NSIDC managing and maintaining the technological infrastructure. The Systems Administrator will set up, administer, and optimize heterogeneous servers and workstations: Windows, Linux, Macintosh, LAN/WAN, and the storage area network. They will participate in the evaluation of technologies that will provide greater flexibility, dependability, and efficiency. They will implement new technologies as required to support business requirements. The ideal candidate will have advanced skill in troubleshooting problem trends to suggest both long-term solutions and near-term fixes, as well as providing root-cause analysis and recommendations.
